Nature’s Dragons Scouts empowers scouts to grow in confidence, build community, and have fun!
We are committed to our founding principles of providing a safe space to neurodivergent boys and girls. The Nature’s Dragons scouting program was created to be inclusive, so everyone can benefit.
Nature’s Dragons focuses on providing programming that is rich in opportunities for scouts of all ages, genders, races, and abilities. Our Program Levels introduce scouts to new skills, experiences, and opportunities for growth. All scouts are given the chance to forge their own path and follow the road that is right for them. Outcomes we strive to achieve with our scouts include:
- Nurturing social-emotional health
- Growing confident leaders
- Experiencing adventures
- Becoming good citizens
- Learning practical life skills
We offer a wide range of levels to include toddlers and young adults. In our experience, there is little support from a scouting organization in the transition to young adulthood. Therefore, we have also created a program that progresses through a scout’s early 20s.
Eggs (ages 5 and under)
Toddlers and preschoolers are often left out when their older siblings join scouts, which is why we’ve included a program level for them. We even offer badges for Eggs with simple activity requirements that meet their level of engagement. Parents must accompany their scouts at the Egg Level.
Hatchling (ages 5-6)
At this age, most children are introduced to scouting and understanding the club structure. As Hatchlings, scouts learn to explore the world around them through Clutch activities, community events, and outdoor adventures while earning achievements. Each scout also has the opportunity to grow and to discover new passions and interests.
Wyrmling (ages 7-9)
Wyrmlings start to take on more responsibility for shaping their own scouting program. In addition to outdoor activities and events, our Wyrmlings also have more opportunities for life skill experiences. Hands-on activities are a cornerstone of this program level, which means our scouts spend more time crafting, exploring nature, and gaining practical knowledge.
Young (ages 10-12)
Young dragons are ready for more varied excursions and activities, including games, crafts, nature walks, and camping. They continue to guide their own scouting program at this level by selecting activities and discussing the practical aspects of implementing them. Scouts are encouraged to explore their individual interests, as well, and even teach their peers! The Young level is where a scout not only learns new skills, but shares them with those around them.
Juvenile (ages 13-15)
Teenagers learn life skills vital to adulthood through scout activities and leadership opportunities. Scout leaders act as guides at this stage, encouraging Juveniles take on more ownership of their Clutch. Juveniles will make program and event decisions, as well as plan, prepare, and implement their own programming. Friendships deepen as the scouts learn to trust one another through shared responsibility and teamwork.
Ancient (ages 16-18)
Scouts entering young adulthood will transition into a leadership role not just within their own Clutch, but the larger Nest. Ancients are encouraged to accomplish badge work and explore independently, while continuing to foster connections with their fellow scouts. Ancients may choose to facilitate the journey of younger scouts or focus on preparation for higher education, independent living, technical skills, and interpersonal relationships.
Wyrm (ages 19-21)
As young adulthood is a time of change, so will the scout’s role change. Rather than expect them to step into adult leadership immediately, this program level gives Wyrms the opportunity to connect more deeply with leaders and be of greater service to the community, while also finding their place in the world around them.
